Spa Expert Offers Tips on Winterizing the Skin for the Harsh Months Ahead
Winter Skincare Tips from The Stanton Spa
WILTON, CT - January 1, 2005 - The harsh cold weather of the winter can take its toll on the skin, according to spa expert, Judith Stanton, owner director of The Stanton Spa in Wilton, Conn. and a spa and medical spa consultant with more than 20 years of experience.
Drops in temperature, coupled with indoor heating and low humidity can remove the moisture in the skin, leaving it dry, itchy and cracking, Stanton added. These problems can be particularly unpleasant during the holidays when house temperatures may be too warm or dry.
Stanton offered the following tips for winterizing the skin:
- Use regular exfoliation with skin hydrating products, because dehydration is one of the most common winter skin conditions, causing a scaly, flaky appearance or a feeling of tightness
- Drink plenty of water throughout the winter. It's one of the easiest moisturizing solutions
- Moisturize the skin properly and consistently with water binding moisturizers, essential to dehydrated skin, preferably within minutes of stepping out of a shower or bath to help trap water in the skin to decrease dryness and itching.
- Focus on the best anti-aging treatments - prevention, care and maintenance
- Before buying skin care products, consult with an esthetician to determine which products are the most beneficial for your skin. Although regular facials are recommended, they need to be coupled with a good home-care regimen or their effects will not last.
- Wearing sunscreen all year around with a minimum SPF15 is a MUST!
- Don't forget about your lips! Chapped, dry or cracked lips can occur, not only from winter, but from certain medications and health conditions.
Stanton added that stress shows itself in many ways, especially at the holidays. Our faces may break out, muscles may tighten, the digestive system becomes imbalanced and healthy eating can definitely goes by the wayside.
